Atacama 3: /Residents
A (very) occasional series about a month in the desert...

I meant to post this over a year ago, but it somehow fell into my drafts folder. It’s interesting revisiting it now—it’s been almost two years since I went to the Atacama. These folks, each and every one of them fascinating, talented and creative, formed a little microcosm for about a month, all fully and completely engaged with the extraordinary environment and with each other. Over time I’ve learned that very few of the relationships established in situations like this really endure. That’s okay—some relationships, maybe most, are contextual. I’m glad I took all these portraits—I hope I found something about each of them that they recognize, a moment in the life we shared, even for a brief moment.
And the Queenest of Bees, Paloma Palomitay, who kept the whole thing going:

Wonderful portraits- I can almost 'read' into their expressions the intensity of the work each artist was involved with during their residency.
Terrific portraits.
